Tips for JSONL

Each line must be a complete JSON value.

Skip or log blank lines explicitly in pipelines.

One bad line should not silently invalidate the whole file.

Prefer UTF-8 without a BOM for tooling compatibility.

Stream large JSONL files instead of loading everything at once.

One JSON value per line

Processing stays in your browser — your input is not uploaded to our servers.

JSONL (NDJSON) is a stream of JSON values separated by newlines — common in logs and bulk exports. This parser reads line by line instead of expecting one giant array.

A single broken line should not hide the rest: inspect which record failed and keep the valid ones.

Parse JSON Lines

  1. Paste the .jsonl text

Each line should be its own JSON value, not a pretty-printed multi-line object unless that object is still one line.

  2. Scan line errors

Note the first bad line; trailing commas and concatenated objects are typical.

  3. Copy a single record

Pull one object into the JSON formatter if you need to read it nested.

JSONL parser FAQ

Why not wrap everything in [ ]?

Log files can be huge. Line-oriented parse lets you fail one record without loading a single megarray.

Are blank lines allowed?

Usually skipped. A line with spaces only is not a JSON value.

Is this the same as JSON parser?

JSON parser wants one document. JSONL wants many documents stacked as lines.
