Tips for validating XML

Ensure a single root element and matched tags.

Watch namespaces and prefixes in real documents.

Escape special characters in text nodes (&, <, >).

DTD/XSD validation is separate from well-formedness checks.

Large files may fail for structure issues far from the reported line.

Well-formed XML, not a business schema

Processing stays in your browser — your input is not uploaded to our servers.

This check tells you whether the markup is well-formed: matching tags, a single root, legal characters. It is not an XSD/DTD schema audit.

Use it before importing a feed or config that will fail in a picky parser.

Validate XML markup

  1. Paste the XML

Include the declaration if the document has one — some parsers care.

  2. Run the well-formed check

The first mismatch is the one to fix; later errors often follow from it.

  3. Re-check after edits

Unescaped & and mismatched case in tags are common leftovers.
