Tips for IBAN checks

Checksum OK means structure is plausible, not that the account is active.

Strip spaces before validating or storing.

Country length rules differ — do not assume one size.

Double-check BBAN parts for high-value transfers.

Never use this tool to “test” someone else’s full banking details casually.

IBAN checksum, not a live bank account

Processing stays in your browser — your input is not uploaded to our servers.

IBAN has a country code, checksum, and BBAN. This tool checks structure and the mod-97 checksum — it cannot see whether the account is open.

Use it to catch typos before a payout file. Do not collect IBANs you do not need.

Validate an IBAN

  1. Paste the IBAN

Spaces are usually ignorable. Keep the country letters.

  2. Run the checksum

A fail is almost always a mistyped digit. A pass is still not proof of ownership.

  3. Clear the field

Account numbers are sensitive even when they fail the check.

IBAN validator FAQ

Does a valid IBAN mean funds will arrive?

No. The account may be closed, the name may not match, and SEPA rules still apply.

Is the IBAN uploaded?

No. The checksum is computed in the browser.

US routing numbers?

Different system. This page is IBAN, not ABA.
