Tips for URL encoding

Encode query values; do not blindly encode the whole URL.

Spaces may be %20 or + depending on the component.

Encode unicode properly (UTF-8 then percent-encode).

Reserved characters differ for path vs query vs fragment.

Verify with the receiving framework’s decoder.

Make text safe for a query string

Processing stays in your browser — your input is not uploaded to our servers.

Encoding replaces reserved characters so a parameter does not split the URL. Use it when building links or form bodies by hand.

Encode the value, not the entire URL including `https://`, unless you really want the scheme escaped.

Encode a URL component

  1. Paste the raw value

Spaces, Cyrillic, and `&` are the usual reasons you need this.

  2. Encode

Copy the result into the query string after `=`.

  3. Do not encode twice

A second pass turns `%` into `%25` and breaks the receiver.

URL encode FAQ

encodeURI vs encodeURIComponent?

This helper is for components (values). Encoding a full URL with a component encoder will escape slashes and `:` too.

Is anything requested?

No. String rewrite only.

Local?

Yes.
