Tips for MAC addresses
Generated MACs are for labs, VMs, and testing — not spoofing abuse.
Respect locally administered vs universal address bits when needed.
Avoid collisions inside the same L2 network.
Some networks filter or bind by MAC — document changes.
Do not use random MACs to bypass access controls you do not own.
Random MAC addresses for labs
Processing stays in your browser — your input is not uploaded to our servers.
A MAC identifies a network interface. This generator creates locally administered-looking addresses for VMs, containers, and documentation — not to spoof a neighbor’s NIC.
Check the unicast/locally-administered bits if your hypervisor is picky.
Generate a MAC
Generate an address
Each run should be unique enough for lab use. Do not copy a MAC from a production host “for realism”.
Paste into the VM config
Keep the colon or hyphen format your hypervisor expects.
Avoid duplicate MACs on one L2
Two guests with the same MAC on a bridge will fight.
MAC generator FAQ
Can I use this on a public network to hide?
No. Changing MAC on a network you do not own is hostile. Lab and docs only.
Is a generated MAC globally unique?
It is random enough for a lab. It is not an IEEE-assigned OUI you should ship in hardware.
Does generation call a vendor API?
No. It is local randomness.
