Tips for IP checks

Local classification (private, loopback, CGNAT) works offline in the browser.

Geo and ASN come from a third-party HTTPS API and can be approximate.

Never use geo-IP alone for access control or fraud decisions.

Paste only addresses you are allowed to investigate.

IPv6 classification here is limited — focus on format and lookup fields.

Classify an IP, then look up public whois-style facts

Address class is computed locally. Optional city/ASN fields come from a public IP info API when the lookup succeeds.

First the tool labels the address locally (private, loopback, public). Then it may query a public IP info API for country and ASN.

Paste an address you are debugging — not a way to stalk people. Geo is approximate.

Check an IP address

  1. Enter an IPv4 or IPv6 address

Hostnames belong in DNS/WHOIS tools, not here.

  2. Read the local class

Private and loopback ranges never need a geo API to explain themselves.

  3. Use geo fields as a hint

ISP names help tickets; they are not a courtroom location.

IP checker FAQ

Is every field computed locally?

Version and private/public class are local. City/ASN come from ipwho.is when the lookup succeeds.

Why did geo fail?

The public API may be blocked, rate-limited, or unreachable. Local classification still remains.

Can I look up my own IP without typing it?

Use My IP first, then paste that public address here if you want ASN details.
